Support Meetings and Education Groups
WHAT TO EXPECT AT A SUPPORT MEETING
- A warm welcome, presentation of group guidelines, and brief introductions
- Facilitated discussion based on the needs of the attendees
- Our support groups focus on challenges and feelings associated with coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning – LGBTQ+ – and the way this impacts relationships with families, friends, and our larger communities.
- We provide support by listening carefully, sharing our own stories, and discussing our own problem-solving experiences.
- The facilitator(s) want everyone to have a chance to bring up any issues they want to raise during our meeting. However, we will not “call on” people and put them on the spot, knowing that not everyone is ready to share.
- Wrap-up and announcements
- Confidentiality is a top priority
- You may participate in the discussion or just observe, whichever you feel most comfortable doing.
